There's A YouTube Channel For That
from Contributing Writer
Thomas E. Dawson
One of the first things every boater learns is they have a responsibility to “maintain a proper look-out” at all time to avoid a collision.
But we have all been there, after a long day on the water boater fatigue can creep up slowly as we cruise the waterways. The combination of sun glare, wind, and rocking movements of the boat can wears us out, lulling us into sleep.
Other times we find ourselves distracted by “experimenting” with new features on the radar or electronic chart plotter. Or we are spending too much time looking at our “smartphone.”
These distractions can prevent us from paying attention to what is happening around us.
“Situational Awareness” from Season 3 on America’s Boating Channel shows you how onboard technology, smartphones, and environmental factors can keep us from being aware of what is happening around us.
