Cape Coral Cruise Club - “Where boaters become friends and memories last forever.”
It was a beautiful week for our cruise to Pink Shell! On Tuesday, members arrived in the afternoon to high northeast winds. Most cruisers began decorating their boats for the Halloween decorating contest and preparing for the potluck dinner on the Dockmaster’s Deck, with docktails at 5:00.
A nostalgia game was played, and three couples tied with 18 out of 20 correct answers. The prize ultimately went to Pam and Wayne after a runoff.
On Wednesday, we gathered for breakfast at Jack’s around 9:00 and then headed to the Deck for the T-shirt contest. To everyone’s surprise, the T-shirts had been twisted, soaked, and frozen solid!
It took nearly 45 minutes for John and Pati to thaw theirs enough to get the shirt onto John. Second and third place went to Samantha and Ron, followed by Debbie and Bill.
That evening, we enjoyed dinner at Nervous Nellie’s, where we were joined by Terry and Lori Johns, who came by boat, and by Walt, who drove several of us to the restaurant. With 21 at our table, it was a lively group.
Everyone received a ballot from the cruise host to vote for the best-decorated boat. Back at the docks, many of us gathered aboard YKnot for after-dinner drinks and to turn in our votes. The winners were the Vaughns, the Ridouts, and a tie for third between the Connollys and the Carlsons.
Thursday began with another breakfast at Jack’s. Members spent their free time at the beach, the pool, and playing cards. We met again at 5:00 for docktails and a spirited dice game of Ship, Captain, Crew, and Treasure. Wayne and Deanne emerged as the champions. Later, many of us gathered at Bongo’s for dinner and a beautiful sunset.
On Friday morning, we all headed home after a fun and memorable week on Fort Myers Beach.
November Hidden Island Picnic
Ron and Samantha Ridout had Hidden Island beautifully trimmed, mowed, and looking absolutely stunning for our November Picnic!
We had 34 members attend, with 12 arriving by boat for a total of six boats. Upon arrival, a few of the guys finished up an island project related to our recently completed well installation.
On Friday evening, members who came by boat enjoyed a sunset potluck and river cruise aboard our pontoon boat, the Capt Phil.
The picnic on Saturday was hosted by Bruce and Sue Longman, who served a delicious menu of baked ham with raisin sauce, candied sweet potatoes, garlic green beans, cast-iron skillet Southern cornbread, and carrot cake for dessert.
After the picnic wrapped up Saturday afternoon, ten of the remaining boaters boarded Tad and Jane Vaughn’s boat and cruised over to the LaBelle Yacht Club for happy hour and fantastic country music by the Hambone Band.
Sunday morning was spent cleaning up and completing a few minor projects around the island before everyone headed home.
The weather was picture-perfect all weekend, and as SWFL season kicks into high gear with tourists and traffic, our members appreciate the beauty and solace of Hidden Island more than ever.
Come Join the fun!
